Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan was a very good President. He loved America and wanted to see it prosper. He cut taxes, and limited the Government. He believed that the less the Government was involved, and the less power it had the more America would prosper. As a result of him cutting taxes people began getting hired again. And businesses were prospering.

During the 1960-70s Government spending increased by 10,000%. Taxes were very high and there was a lot of infiltration. Money was worth less than ever. In 1980 Reagan won the Presidency, he sought to return to conservatism. He wanted a limited Government, he believed that the Government was the source of the US’s economic problems, and that limiting the Government would reduce those problems. He built up the Military, to win the Cold War and defeat the Soviet Union. Reagan came with a sense of optimism, hope, and pride. His phrase was, “Morning in America.” and he was the first one to say, “Make America Great Again,” he wanted to make America proud again, and believe in themselves. Reagan was an Actor, which made him a very good communicator. He was also a Christian, he had emphasised that America needed to return to Christian values.

The Soviet Union was becoming more aggressive because America was prospering. They had taken over Afghanistan and Czechoslovakia. Reagan saw that they were not going to stop expanding, so he refused to accept detente. He labeled them the Evil Empire, and explained that the US was not going to disarm in order to co-exist, Reagan wanted the US to have the moral high ground. So the US began building more weapons, they were rapidly developing and improving. The US finally created a missile shield, called SDI (Space Defence Initiative). However, Russia was struggling to keep up with prospering America. Eventually the Soviet Union fell apart in 1991.

Regan believed that the Stronger the US became, the more peace there would be. Not Strength through the Government, but through the individually free citizens of America. The Misery Index, which was based on two things, the unemployment rate and the infiltration rate. Before Reagan, the economy was crippled. Reagan believed that the Government was the source of all of the US’s economic problems, that the Government was in the way of people building their businesses, and hiring more workers. The Government was taking too much of people’s money, in the form of taxes and regulations. Reagan’s solution to the problem was to cut taxes. He wanted to help businesses prosper, so that they could do more production, and hire more people. Out of the prosperous 80s came the Digital Revolution. Computers as well as the internet completely changed America.

Reagan helped restore American Pride, he was also a great leader. He believed that America should be the Leader of the free world. The key to America’s success was to embrace our key principles. Free people living their own lives, can make the country stronger than an expert telling people how to live their lives. The more limited the Government does, the more free individual people are to do good things. Free individuals result in economic, political and moral strength. As long as people know their principals and what they stand for, they will be stronger.
